REBER Family DNA Project
Who am I, where did I come from, where did my family live, what did they do and to whom am I related today? These are all common questions which until recently required hours of painstaking research sometimes leading to erroneous answers. With the advent of DNA technology some of these questions can now be answered with scientific precision. DNA probably won't tell you everything you might want to know, but it will tell you if you are related to other living people with your surname or perhaps a similar surname.
The Reber family DNA project employed two companies to process our DNA analyses. These two companies were Relative Genetics (no longer accepting clients) and DNA Heritage. The DNA Heritage company is headquartered in England, but the laboratory used and their local office is in the United States. Relative Genetics has been purchased by Ancestry.com.
The requirement for participation in our family DNA project is to be a man named Reber, or one of the closely related variant surnames with known genealogy traceable to a man named Reber. Men are required because the DNA analysis uses the male Y-Chromosome.
The test is very easy to perform, requires no blood and is completely painless. Cheek cells are gathered from the inside of the man's mouth using a special Q-Tip type swab . This is no more complicated than brushing one's teeth. Once collected the cells are mailed to the laboratory for analysis. Results are normally available within a few weeks.
Sound interesting? We gladly welcome new participants. The more Reber men participating the more comprehensive and precise our database will be. Please let us know if you have questions or would like more information.
